Chemical-based firefighter foam, or AFFF, has been used for many years due to its success in extinguishing petroleum and jet fuel fires. However, the foam has also been connected to the development of several types of cancer. This has occurred significantly in firefighters who were regularly exposed to it. If you or a loved one has developed cancer due to exposure to firefighter foam, you may be entitled to compensation. Our lawyers will fight to get your loved one the compensation they deserve.
Firefighter foam is formally known as aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). The foam creates a barrier that prevents fuel from accessing the oxygen it uses to burn. AFFF has formerly used, and in some cases still uses, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS have been noted by organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and the Center for Disease Control to possibly be linked to cancer.
Long term exposure to AFFF’s has been linked to, but not limited to:
- Testicular Cancer
- Bladder Cancer
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Kidney Cancer
- Prostate Cancer
- Thyroid Disease
- Ulcerative Colitis
- Preeclampsia
